The menu is just as cool and kitschy as the décor: caramelized pineapple upside down pancakes the size of saucers, housemade flour tortillas brimming with fluffy scrambled eggs, crisp-edge potatoes, cheese, ranchero salsa and bacon or sausage or the vanilla almond oatmeal brulee. The Washington Post You'll do anything but fall asleep in this slightly retro and totally gracious tribute to breakfast, where pancakes can be sampled as "flights" and the burrito is bundled with scrambled eggs, shredded potatoes, cheese and (yeow!) green chile sauce. Try to snag table No. 8, a circular booth that looks like a Tilt-O-Whilr on a diet and takes in a great view of the scene. 5280 Few dishes are more comforting than tomato soup and grilled cheese. The combo brings back childhood memories of cozy lunches with Mom, steam rising from the bowl, fingertips burned from sandwiches hot off the grill. At Snooze it’s no different, except this ain’t Campbell’s or Velveeta on Wonder Bread. The down- town kitchen purées tomatoes with carrots and celery for depth, adding a hint of sugar for sweetness and a dollop of cream for richness. Topped with herbed focaccia croutons, the rustic potage proves a perfect companion for the decadent sourdough-Cheddar-Swiss-Jack grilled cheese. And when that’s gone, we dunk bites of crispy hash brown—made interesting with Kosher salt, black pepper, and onion powder—into the hearty soup. ...you get creamy vanilla almond oatmeal brulee ($5) with a brown sugar coating made crackly with a torch. Housemade flour tortillas wrap the breakfast burrito ($9) crammed with soft scrambled eggs, spuds, cheese, zesty salsa and bacon or sausage.
Superior, freshly grated hash browns are a must at any serious a.m. joint. Here, they are griddled and layered in the lovable Snooze Spuds Deluxe ($6; $7 with bacon/sausage). Served in a white metal casserole, the spuds are mingled with green onions and melted cheeses. I recommend a couple of over-easies over the top. Snooze's claim to fame is gussied-up, scratch pancakes including one hall-of-fame entry: caramelized pineapple upside-down pancakes ($7) with vanilla crème and cinnamon butter. The lovely, dessert-like chocolate and PB pancakes ($7) is topped with dark chocolate sauce and peanut butter crème.
Snooze An A.M.Eatery is enough to make anyone want to wake up before that alarm goes off. The space is fresh and inviting with a décor that combines a 50s diner with a modern twist. Great colors, furniture design and wall treatments are terrific with greens, orange, black, blue and steel combining to create an exciting space. Imagine vanilla almond oatmeal brulee, peanut butter pancakes with chocolate and peanut butter chips and dark chocolate sauce, breakfast tacos with scrambled eggs, crispy potatoes, jack cheese, avocado and ranchero sauce, pineapple upside down pancakes with chunks of fresh caramelized pineapple and vanilla crème anglaise and cinnamon butter.
